Description:

The Three Sisters ride is a very well-known ride in the hill country. Many people even say it is one of the best ride in the country. It is comprised of 3 Ranch to Market roads with sequential number, namely FM-335, FM-336 and FM-337.

Starting in Medina, TX head west on FM-337 for 20 miles. The road winds some through a valley then gains some elevation through some hills with some nice turns. FM-337 hits a T at RR-187 where you turn right for a mile and turn left, continuing on FM-337. At the turn is the Lost Maple RV and Camping store. This is a pause spot for motorcycles, motorcycle clubs and sports car clubs before continuing on the more challenging part of the 3 Sisters ride, which is the following 15 miles.

Continuing on FM-337, you gain elevation, and the road starts with sweeping turns then quickly becomes challenging with multiple 20mph turns and S-curves. After around 5 miles, it straightens out for a mile and then continues with another section of sharp turns and S-curves. After another 5 miles of turns, you descend into the Frio river valley as you come into Leakey. At the intersection of US-83, you continue on FM-337 toward Camp Wood.

One half mile after you cross US-83 you ride past the Frio Canyon Motorcycle stop/Bent Rim Grill. This is a frequent hangout for lots of motorcycles. This is a must stop!

Now comes a decision. You can either do the Sisters clockwise (FM-337 to Camp Wood first) or counter-clockwise (go back to US-87 North and take FM-336 outside of Leakey). Both directions are very enjoyable. We will describe the clockwise approach here.

Leaving Bent Rim Grill, you continue west on FM-337. After a few miles you again start to rise out of the Frio valley and the road has sharp turns. This lasts for a couple miles then you ride on top of a plateau till you start the decent into Camp Wood where you have some more sharp turns. The last couple miles into Camp Wood are not real challenging but pose a nice break from the turns since the Lost Maple Store.

FM-337 ends at TX-55. Turn right and head toward Barksdale on TX-55. After 5 miles, on the north side of Barksdale, turn right onto FM-335. You then have a mixture of S-curves, and long sweeping curves for almost 30 miles. FM-335 ends at TX-41 where you turn right.

TX-41 is just the connector between FM-335 and FM-336 and is generally straight (with a 75mph speed limit) as it is a major road. After 13 miles you turn right on FM-336 for the last leg of the 3 Sisters. FM-336 then continues the same type of S-curves and longer sweeping curves. This continues for 26 miles and ends at US-83, where you go right and head back to the US-83/FM-337 intersection and head back to the Bent Rim Grill.

Road Conditions:

All roads on this route are chip-seal and pose no construction challenges, except as noted:
FM-337 between Lost Maple store and Leakey have a few worn chip seal spots. In very warm weather this can become a little slick as it is essentially just the chip seal tar on the road.
