Description:

Starting in Boerne, TX head toward Boerne High School on FM-474, taking a left at the High School.  FM-474 gently winds through nice curves and ends at RR-473.  Taking a left on RR-473 toward Sisterdale, follow it till Comfort, TX.  After 7 miles, you go through Sisterdale and then on to Comfort.  RR-473 takes a left on the north side of Sisterdale.  Around 6 miles after you turn left there is a quaint “Cartoon Saloon”.  It is not a real saloon: it’s a walk-in Wild West photo-op beside the road.  The owners/creators are there sometimes on weekends.

Continuing to follow RR-473 into Comfort it dead ends at TX-27.  Take a right and continue towards Center Point.  You can either continue on TX-27 till the Center Point Stoplight (and turn left on FM-480) or for a little fun, turn left on FM-1350W to wind a little into Center Point. FM-1350W ends at FM-480 and turn left heading toward Camp Verde.

FM-480 Ends at TX-173 right next to Camp Verde.  Camp Verde has a quint general store and a good restaurant with plenty of Parking.

Heading South on TX-173 from Camp Verde, take a left on FM-2828 after about 3 miles, heading toward Medina.  FM-2828 ends after 9 miles at TX-16.  Turning right on TX-16 takes you into Medina after 2 miles or turn left on TX-16 and go toward Bandera.  Continue to follow TX-16 which runs down the center or Bandera.  Continue left on TX-16 at the end of downtown and head toward Boerne.  After 10 miles, turn left onto TX-46 which ends up back in Boerne.

This route has some nice turns for a gentle ride through the hill county.  This is more of a leisure ride than a challenging ride but goes through some smaller hill country towns where there are some restaurants and quint stores.

Road Conditions:

All roads on this route are chip-seal and pose no construction challenges, except as noted:

FM-2828:  Between TX-173 and TX-16, after around 3 miles, there is a 3-mile stretch where the WESTBOUND lane has been torn up for construction.  The base on these patches (multiple “15 ft patches”) is dirt/gravel, warranting a slightly slower speed.
