Description:
Starting in Fredericksburg, head north on US-87 toward the north end of town. At the north end of town, the right lane veers right at the stop light. Continue on US-87 for 10 miles and turn left on FM-648 toward Doss. This road continues for 12 miles and has some curves. And elevation changes as it rolls through the hill country. There are a few S-curves but generally it has gentle turns. Once in Doss, take a left onto FM-783. Continue on FM-783 for 15 miles and it drops you into the town of Harper after rolling along with some gentle curves. Turn right onto US-290 for ¼ mile and then turn left, continuing on FM-783 toward Kerrville. FM-783 continues for another 18 miles with gentle curves as it traverses the rolling hills.
As you approach Kerrville you will see the famous James Avery Artisan Jewelry facility, as there are some sharper turns around the facility, for the last 1-2 miles before you cross IH-10W. Continue on FM-783 after you cross IH-10W and at the first light take a left onto Holdsworth Dr. Which is in essence a by-pass on the east side of Kerrville. Continue straight as you cross TX-16 and Holdsworth becomes Golf ave. At the roundabout, take a left (second roundabout exit) and continue on Tivy St/Cypress Creek Rd. Follow this through neighborhoods till you cross Loop 534, then continue straight as this becomes FM-1341.
FM-1341 winds along IH-10W for 12 miles. When you pass under IH-10W, look for the YMCA sign which takes you onto Hasenwinkel Rd (second road on left after passing IH-10W). Hasenwinkel road is a nice “slower” back road with some pleasant scenery, curves as it rolls along the hill country. This road then changes names to Center Point Rd as it enters Gillespie county. After continuing for 15 miles, it ends at Old Kerr Hwy. Take a right and follow it till it drops you at TX-16. Turn right toward Fredericksburg. TX-16 will intersect in downtown Fredericksburg again with US-87.
