  • Vanderpool to Medina
  • Medina to Kerrville
  • 97 Miles – Approx 2:00 hrs

Description:

From the center of Kerrville (intersection of TX-16 and TX-27), take TX-27 north toward Ingram. When in Ingram, stay straight onto TX-39 heading west (TX-27 veers right at the light). Continue on TX-39 to Hunt. This road has some curves, following the Guadalupe river and passes various B&B and recreation areas locations along the way.

Once in Hunt, TX-39 continues to follow the Guadalupe river and has some nice turns as it follows the river. You pass more family camps and other recreation area along the way. This road is not difficult but is an enjoyable ride. It does have tree cover in spots, which allows for some shading during the summertime. It has several Guadalupe crossings, so if there has been lots of rain in the area, the river has flowed over the road, requiring motorcycles to be slow, but not impassible (however, this has not been an issue for several years). After 15 miles, the road also passes a large ranch and various wildlife can be observed.

After traveling 20 miles on TX-39, turn left onto FM-187 south toward Vanderpool. The ranch along TX-39 continues on the left with its wildlife for a few miles. As you turn onto FM-187, on the right is another large ranch with wildlife. Continuing down FM-187 to Vanderpool, you also pass the Lost Maples State Natural Area. In the fall, it can get busy with people on the walking trails looking at the fall foliage. Soon after passing the Natural area, you see, on the right the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum. This museum has a variety of vintage motorcycles.

Once in Vanderpool, take a left onto TX-337 toward Medina. The road soon gains some elevation through some hills with some nice turns. It continues for 20 miles and ends in Medina. Turn left onto TX-16 toward Kerrville. This road starts with some gentle curves and then after about 8 miles gets some very good S-curves and a couple hairpin turns as you go over some hills for about 5 miles at which point is goes back to gentle curves as you come into Kerrville.
